Cue Camp VA 2025 is Coming!!

It’s that magical time of year again – the time my family looks forward to the most! It’s not Christmas, it’s not summer vacation, it’s CUE CAMP TIME!!

Cue Camps are events where cuers of all ages and skill levels (and their family, friends, and support teams) can gather, learn, and socialize. It’s a family reunion for older cuers, and it’s a priceless opportunity for new cuers to improve their skills and connect with our supportive Cue-munnity! My family has been coming to Cue Camp VA for 13 years this year – ever since Wisty was 8 months old!

This year, I will be leading the Children’s Classes again. We offer fun activities for kids pre-K to high school, focusing on receptive and expressive cueing skills. From recognition, to decoding, to fluency – we play games that reinforce all basic cueing skills!

This year, there is a sad possibility that Cue Camp VA will be cancelled due to low enrollment. Many of the families of deaf kids we met when we started have stopped coming because their kids have all grown older and are too busy and involved in other things to come. A couple years ago, the Cued Speech pre-school program at Fairfax County ended when the Most Amazing Lorac Lawton retired and nobody took her place. We have no new cueing families coming into the schools now.

So if you have ever been a Cue Camper in the past, come for a reunion, we miss you! Or if you ever wanted to learn more about Cued Speech, the best way is to see native cuers in action! And spend the most amazing weekend of your life hiking, kayaking, moon-bouncing, marshmallow roasting, and CUEING!

The Northern VA Cued Speech Association has registrations – and lots of great pictures of past Cue Camps – on their website https://www.nvcsa.org/
